Disable Google fonts

With this option you can disable all Google fonts in TheGem with just one simple click. This means, that all third-party requests to Google fonts will be automatically disabled and the self-hosted fonts will be used instead.

Step 1

By clicking on “Disable” a modal appears, asking you to confirm, that you really want to disable Google fonts in TheGem and choose between two font replacement options:

  • Replace with embedded fonts”: the Google fonts selected in your current typography settings in Theme Options will be automatically replaced by the embedded default TheGem fonts (Montserrat, Source Sans Pro)
  • Replace with system font”: the Google fonts selected in your current typography settings in Theme Options will be automatically replaced by the system font (Arial).

Note:

  • We strongly recommend to backup your current TheGem Theme Options settings before proceeding.
  • You can always upload and use your own self-hosted fonts by using “Self-Hosted Fonts” tool in TheGem.
  • Only Google fonts used in TheGem theme will be disabled. This action doesn’t affect any third-party plugins. In case you will still have requests to Google fonts server after performing this action, please check your third-party plugins settings and disable Google fonts in this plugins manually.

Step 2

To finish the disabling of Google fonts, TheGem’s CSS for styles set in Theme Options should be regenerated. All your settings will remain, this action will not affect your setup. Just click on “Regenerate CSS” to finish the process. After that you will be redirected to Theme Options.

Disable DNS prefetch

DNS prefetching is an attempt to resolve domain names before a user tries to follow a link. This is done using the computer’s normal DNS resolution mechanism. The main reason for rel=dns-prefetch to exist is to speed up the way web pages load when they are using different domains for page resources. This process is often called “DNS prefetching“.

By default WordPress adds DNS prefetching via rel=dns-prefetch to preload Google fonts, emojis etc. Here you have an option to disable DNS prefetching for your website.Just click on “Disable DNS Prefetch” button and DNS Prefetch will be disabled.

Note: in case you use one-click optimization or any website caching plugin please don’t forget to empty all your website caches in order to see changes on your website’s front-end.
